Connie's Clubhouse

Where Inclusion is the Vibe

Help us expand our services and reach our goal!

During this 2025 holiday season, people with developmental and intellectual disabilities need your help now more than ever to overcome systemic barriers and find resources to meet their needs.

Please help us expand our services to 3 more individuals with disabilities, enabling them to access tools that will help them thrive and live fulfilling lives as independently as possible. Our goal of $15,000 will fund full-time day programming for 3 months.

You can make a difference in your community today by supporting the journey to independent living!

Collecting Donations for Connie's Clubhouse Clients

A majority of Connie's Clubhouse's clients receive SNAP assistance to pay for their groceries. With standard food banks already experiencing large demand for food, sending our clients to a food pantry doesn't guarantee help.

You can help them by donating non-perishable food items at Adapt for Life Autism Services at 6350 Rucker Road, Indianapolis, IN 46220 from November 1 - December 31, 2025.

Toys for Tots: Partnership with the Very Gary Foundation

From November 1-December 3, Connie's Clubhouse is partnering with the Very Gary Foundation to host a Toys for Tots drop-off at 3 locations:

  • COhatch Zionsville - 75 N Main Street, Zionsville, IN 46077
  • Cohatch Carmel - 38 W Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032
  • Cohatch Broad Ripple - 6151 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220

Please bring new, unwrapped, unopened, store-bought, and chemical-free toys that are safe and suitable for children from infancy up to age 15. Toys containing weapons, science/chemistry kits, beauty/make-up/ personal hygiene products, and anything containing water beads, aquadots, or orbeez will not be accepted.

When selecting toys, please remember that older children, teens, and minorities are often overlooked.

What Makes Us Different

Experienced Professionals & Behavioral-Informed Programming

Our team is made up of compassionate, experienced professionals dedicated to person-centered support. With backgrounds in behavioral health, education, and disability services, we’re here to help participants thrive in a way that’s meaningful to them.

Our activities are grounded in evidence-based strategies to promote communication, skill-building, independence, and emotional wellness.

More Choice,

More Individualized Care

We believe that learning occurs everywhere and looks different for everyone. Each person is unique and has specific needs that require tailored solutions.

Our programs operate outside the limitations of Medicaid because we understand that individuals with disabilities do not fit into a box. We welcome individuals of all abilities, backgrounds, and support needs. Bring your own staff or RBT, drop in for the day, or join our full-day program. We’re here for you, your way.

Small Groups,

Big Impact

We intentionally keep our groups small to provide personalized support for each individual. This model enables participants to build stronger relationships and experience meaningful progress in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

In our daily programs, we limit the number of participants to no more than 8, ensuring that everyone receives the attention, support, and respect they deserve.

Short & Focused Lessons, Long & Fulfilling Life

We use short, targeted lessons with real-life application to build everyday skills like communication, self-advocacy, job readiness, and more. This approach supports lasting independence and keeps participants engaged and confident.

We also offer a variety of social and community gatherings in the evenings and on weekends, creating opportunities that go beyond traditional therapy and into real life.

Koko’s Story: A Testament to Patience, Progress, and Possibility

Over the past four and a half years, Taylor has had the incredible honor of working with Koko. When they first met in 2022, Koko was living at home with his parents, receiving no formal services but benefiting from his family's unwavering support. Most of his days were spent at home, and due to the severity of his self-injurious behaviors (SIB), even something as simple as a car ride felt risky. For the first two years of their time together, Taylor could not safely transport Koko anywhere; the community felt entirely out of reach.

One day, with courage and trust, Koko’s mom and Taylor decided to give it a try. They went for a short drive, got a coffee, and returned home. To their delight, Koko did great. That moment opened a new door for him. Since then, Koko has not only learned to tolerate but also to enjoy outings in the community, whether it's a trip to the grocery store, a special event, or simply a drive. The progress they've made is nothing short of extraordinary. While Koko is non-vocal, he is highly expressive in his own way. He may not speak with words, but his looks, actions, and sounds all convey deep meaning, if you're paying attention. Over time, Taylor and his family learned how to listen.

Today, Koko:

  • Lives independently with supportive services.
  • Attends community outings regularly.
  • Holds a long-term job at State Safety & Compliance, where he proudly works under his own small business: Koko’s Consulting Company.

But his path to employment didn’t happen overnight.

After receiving a Ticket to Work invitation from President Biden, Koko and his parents began working with the Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program. As a result of that process, he was assigned a job counselor and began pre-employment training services (pre-ETS) through EasterSeals. With his team's support, he began volunteering at Goodwill, learning job skills under the guidance of his Behavior Consultant (BC). Eventually, he was offered a paid opportunity at State Safety & Compliance. After aging out of pre-ETS, he was hired independently and continues to work diligently, assembling products for retail and managing custodial duties. He now bills monthly for his services under his own name—how amazing is that?

Koko’s story isn’t just about him but about the barriers so many individuals with higher support needs face. Koko is often turned away from programs—not because he doesn’t want to participate, but because the structure or staffing isn’t equipped to support him. His family has worked tirelessly to provide him with social opportunities and independence, often facing disappointment and roadblocks in a system that lacks understanding.

This is why Connie’s Clubhouse was built.

It was founded to give families like Koko’s a place where they belong. A place that says yes, where others have said no. Where social opportunities, skill-building, inclusion, and purpose are never dependent on "functioning level," but on willingness, support, and belief in each person’s potential.

Koko is a true testament to what time, patience, and genuine understanding can achieve. His progress is not the result of magic—but of a dedicated family, a persistent team, and a community that chose to believe in him. He continues to inspire us every day, reminding us that big behaviors do not mean small dreams.

At Connie’s Clubhouse, we’re building a space where others like Koko can not only find services, but find belonging, connection, purpose, and pride.

Meet the Grover Family

Marisa and John Grover, proud parents of J.R and Henry Grover
Marisa and John ( J.J.) Grover have a strong passion for serving individuals with special needs. Their adult son J.R is living with a rare genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome.

Marisa holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from Xavier University. She has worked in cardiac critical care and, more recently, for Tendercare Home Services, providing in-home care to pediatric clients with special needs. In addition, she has worked for several years as a Certified nurse trainer for the Bureau of Disability Services, training caregivers on how to administer medications safely. Marisa is excited to bring her nursing knowledge to Connie’s Clubhouse as well as her strong desire for inclusion.

John Grover (JJ) is a 1997 graduate of Xavier University. He holds an undergraduate degree in history and an MBA from Northern Kentucky University.

JJ has been a loyal employee of Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals for 22 years. He is currently the Key Account Manager for the Neuroscience division for the state of Michigan, serving individuals with severe mental illness, including treatment-resistant depression and schizoaffective disorders.

Not only in his professional career, but also personally, he understands the importance of promoting positive mental health for families facing the challenges of long-term caregiving. He understands that through providing appropriate supports and programs to our adults with special needs, we not only enrich their lives, but also provide the ability for parents to recharge and focus on their own mental health. J.J. Is excited and honored to bring his professional and personal experience to serve on the board of Connie’s Clubhouse.

JJ and Marisa also understand the impact it has on siblings when they have a child with special needs in their family. Their family was completed in 2013 with the birth of their son, Henry Grover. He is his brother’s biggest fan. Henry currently serves on the Joseph Maley Foundation puppet troupe, where he performs in a puppet show at area elementary schools to raise awareness about disabilities. Henry will proudly volunteer with Connie's Clubhouse to make sure individuals like his brother feel loved and included.

Entering the world of adult services has proven to be challenging in terms of securing placement in an adult day services program, as well as obtaining 24/7 staffing by a residential provider. Therefore, it has become their life’s passion to support organizations that serve Adults with significant behavioral and medical needs.
